Writing Advice According to Dr. Seuss Compiled and Arranged by Diana Flegal

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who'll decide where to go.

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!

Whenever things go a bit sour in a job I'm doing, I always tell myself, 'You can do better than this.'

Step with care and great tact, and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act.

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.

Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.

From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere.

Thank you for making me smile, Diana. You've brought back cozy memories of my dad reading Dr. Suess to me each time a new book arrived in the mail. This was like a hug from him, as 17 years ago today he went to heaven. My kids and I enjoyed Dr. Suess together too, and I'm keeping the books for their children. My youngest brother ended up with most of my old books. But I started a new collection of them the moment I found out I was pregnant with my first child.

Perfect, the only thing missing was a quote from my favorite, Go Dogs Go!

Diana, Thank you for sharing this encouragement! I, too, am a Seuss fan. I am a poet who often writes in verse. Several years ago I wrote a similar piece for middle school students who are so influenced by peer pressure.

Uniquely You
You are really quite special,
You are truly unique,
You’re a real one and only
From your head to your feet.

Incomparable, distinctive,
And unparalled,
Only you can be you,
And you do it so well.

So be true to yourself,
Please don’t imitate.
You are uniquely you,
And I think you’re great!

Thank you for the truth in your nonsense, Diana. Love it.

Your welcome Marjorie. And Susanne, thank you for sharing your fun rhyme. I know those middle grade kids had to have enjoyed that. The wonderful thing about rhymes is they stay with us and come back to mind just when we need them. Like the refrain of a hymn or a line from the Psalms.

Diana, I'm reading Dr. Seuss daily with my children. It's really fun to see it reinvented here.
