Photos Bring More Social Media Engagement by Jennifer Hudson Taylor

The old saying, a picture is worth 1,000 words, is just as true today as ever.

Don't do this to your marketing platform!

According to a recent blog article on Social Media Examiner, a post that includes an album or picture receives 120-180% more engagement from fans than a text-based post. If the stats on my Facebook author page and Upon the Rock Publicist page are any indication, this has proven true for me as well. Images grab people's attention because they tend to scan pages and headlines rather than reading it, which is easier.

Company brands are just now figuring out what we writers have known all along--show, don't tell. They are now incorporating visual storytelling into their social media marketing--and it's working. Here is a statement that says it best, no state-of-the-art technology can substitute for state-of-the-heart storytelling. This is why images must be incorporated into our social media marketing, not replacing all other means of communication.

If you are in need of places to find great royalty-free images and video, here is an article listing several links to sites that provides these resources. Where to Find Royalty Free Images & Footage

Have you started trying to incorporate more photos into your social media marketing? How about videos? Have you created (and updated) your YouTube page yet?
