Technology
is great, but sometimes it's good to remember the basics.
Take
the novel I just started enjoying. How'd I find out about it?
Somebody told me.
A
couple weeks ago I wrote about my resolution to broaden my reading
this year. Someone emailed me about a particular author's series.
I
checked my public library's website, found they had the first two
books, and reserved those copies. (It's great to have a well-stocked
library.)
Turns
out the first book was printed back in 2003. The copy I checked out
was from the fourth printing, so it must have sold well.
But
for some reason, even ten years later, the author's name was new to
me. If someone hadn't told me, it still would be.
I
expect to finish the novel soon (weekend reading time is tight during
the NFL playoffs). If the rest of the book is as good as the first
third, I plan to tell some people about it... What a novel idea.

Ah. Like they say, word of mouth is still the best salesman. Thanks for the post!
I'm totally with you. I started reading Tim Downs this year and haven't stopped laughing yet. And I can't tell you how many people I've told about his writing. You are sooooo "write" :) that's the best way to advertise!!!
I'm part of a book club, and one of the things I like best about it is that I read books that I would have never picked on my own. I've loved most of the choices so far, and I have a whole new list of authors for my "keep your eye on" list! Thanks for sharing this.
