For the Love of Words by Diana

I Love Words. Like many of you I read everything. Toothpaste tubes, Cereal boxes and passing buses with their quirky signs. Words have gladdened my heart during times of sadness, inspired me to reach toward new enterprises as well as filled me with inexpressible worship for my God.

This morning I got up early and settled in with a book I have been reading. It is a self help title and has been another fortuitous read I came across by accident. In a used book store. Just what I needed to read at this time in my life.

God is Good, All the Time.

Amongst it's helpful pages this morning was a quote by Robert Louis Stevenson.

"The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at hand, the path just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life."

Do the thing at hand. That has been a word I have been meditating on the past few months. When our paths are not so clear before us, do the thing at hand.

"Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on thine own understanding and He will direct your path."
Proverbs 3:5

What wonderful words to meditate on today.

May they be an inspiration to you as they have been to me.

Feel free to share a short word that came to you recently through a book, a friend or a blog.

Spring blessings,

Diana

I thought I was the only one who read toothpast tubes! The verse that won't leave my head (thank you, God) is Ex. 14:14. "The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still."

Blessings to you , Diana

Oh, my, that's a hard task since I collect quotes and sayings. I have so many that speak to me, but here are a couple filled with words I especially enjoy right now:

Advance confidently in the direction of your dreams--HDThoreau (I try my best to do this!)

Most of us go to our graves w/our music still inside of us. (ugh; definitely don't want this to happen to me.)

Spiritually, I love the quote about the man complaining about no shoes to a wise man. He was shown a man w/no feet. (Lord, let me be thankful for what I have!)

Love words, too. My family all read whatever we can get our hands on! :)

I'm sure I've read and heard quotes like Mr. Stevenson's hundreds of times, but for some reason they never resonated with me as this one did. Maybe I was just better prepared to receive it today, but all I could think was "wow!"

This will be stuck in my head the entire day, and hopefully days to come. I look forward to sharing it with my family.

Lance That is exactly the way it hit me. Timing is such a delicious thing.

I love words, too, Diana. I have cards of new words I'm learning, and favorite words like "plethora" and "obtuse."

Mr. Stevenson was wise indeed. We are so spoiled in this nation, we forget to seek contentment in simple pleasures.

My favorite quote? "Nevah, nevah, nevah give up!" ---Winston Churchill

Like most (all?) of us here, I completely related to your love of words and reading everything you see.

Thank you for sharing that quote. As a planner, sometimes *just* doing the thing at hand is hard for me to accomplish. Though not through words yet (since he can't talk yet), my son teaches me this regularly. Chasing, caring for, and loving a toddler keeps me quite in the moment.

I always love that Proverbs 3:5 verse. This discussion also brings to mind Matthew 6:33-34.

What a TREAT to read this today, Mon, at the beginning of a new week -- a week FULL of new possibilities and also the sweetness (thanks, RLS) of daily life . . . GREAT blog, Diana! A thousand "sweet" thanks! :-)
