As ...So good that you are making this clear, Terry. As an author yourself, you know how crucial it is to approach more than one person at a time. Submitting to only one at a time (unless limiting the period, as you suggest) means an author could spend a couple years to hear back from only 2, 3, or 4 agents--and still not receive a yes.
